Avocados – the god send of all fruit! What on earth is an avocado I hear? It’s that strange, green, pear shape you find in the supermarket. Avocados are a versatile food – you can slice them up into salads or sandwiches, mash them up for dips and spreads, blend them into a smoothie or eat them whole with a spoon. Personally my favorite is to add one with my scrambled egg!
As a rich, creamy based fruit, avocados are bursting with nutrients and heart-healthy compounds that make a fantastic addition to any meal. So here are a few reasons why I love them so much!
Regulate your blood pressure: Avocados are full of magnesium and potassium, two nutrients known to help reduce blood pressure. The avocado provides more magnesium than twenty other fruits, including the banana, kiwi and strawberry.
Help stabilize blood sugars: Packed with beneficial monounsaturated fat, avocado slows digestion and helps keep blood sugar from spiking after a meal.
Beneficial for the waistline: Avocados get their creamy texture from healthy monounsaturated fats, which take a long time for our bodies to digest and, therefore, can help suppress appetite.
Great for fabulous skin and hair: Rich in vitamins A, C and E which are vitamins commonly known to enhance your complexion and fight ageing skin. One of the main avocado skin benefits comes from their high oleic acid content. This fatty acid maintains moisture in the epidermal layer of your skin, helping to make it soft and hydrated. This is why avocados are commonly found in conditioner and face masks ladies!
